Challenge
In response to the RSA brief “A Platform for Joy”, this project explored how to reduce stress for commuters in busy train stations. While travel time can offer moments for personal relaxation, delays and crowded environments often disrupt this. The challenge was to find a way to support wellbeing without interrupting commuters’ existing habits or adding further distraction.
Outcome
I designed a calming visual system for train stations based on the ‘4-4-4-4’ breathing technique. Rather than introducing new interactions, the solution focused on a subtle animated display that guides breathing through rhythm and motion, creating a moment of calm within a high-stress environment. Inspired by natural forms, the floral animation provides a gentle, ambient cue that commuters can engage with passively. The final concept offers a simple and accessible way to support stress relief, integrating seamlessly into the existing commuting experience.
