Dreamcatchr, a modern opera by the Royal Irish Academy of Music, explores the relationship between two sisters as one becomes increasingly consumed by her obsession with coding. The challenge was to develop a visual identity that captured this internal conflict, translating the narrative into a clear and compelling visual language that reflected the tension between reality and the digital world.
Outcome
I designed a visual identity using mixed media to express the duality of the main character’s experience. The concept centres around a split portrait, combining a vibrant green paint stroke with a pixelated black-and-white treatment. This contrast represents the character’s immersion in coding versus her detachment from reality, visually communicating her gradual loss of control. The identity was applied across key touchpoints, including a poster, programme, and ticketing, ensuring a consistent and recognisable visual system. Each format extended the core concept, balancing expressive visuals with clear hierarchy and legibility.
The final outcome created a striking and expressive identity that reflected the emotional depth of the opera while translating its themes into a cohesive visual language.
